Material Handling Facilities case study

Recycle process for material handling facilities

Issue

A material handling facility that handles a large number of different materials on a regular basis has standard procedures for handling the most common waste materials it deals with. However, for the less common loads of scrap that it handles it has to tailor new waste management solutions. The facility had just received a large batch of HDPE traffic cones that were no longer usable and had to create a custom waste handling journey for them.

Exporting Material

The collection of the load of HDPE traffic cones was arranged with a licensed waste carrier, and the haulier brought the material to our recycling facility. At every step of the process of handling and transporting the plastic waste materials we deal with, we are fully compliant with all relevant regulations at all times. This process is carried out in the most ethically way possible to ensure the maximum recyclability of the polymers.

Consultation

The material handling facility reached out to arrange a consult with Pakire Polymers and find out how we could help. After conducting a thorough site audit, we informed the client of the value of the waste and their options for dealing with it. We suggested that we could buy the HDPE traffic cones from them to recycle them at our facility. The client agreed and we negotiated prices, after which a purchase order was issued.

Output

We processed the HDPE traffic cones at our state-of-the-art recycling facility where, thanks to the standard of the machinery that we use, we were able to achieve a high yield of premium-quality recycled HDPE pellet. We were able to send this pellet to a company that could manufacture it back into new HDPE traffic cones, that we then supplied to a road surfacing contractor.
