Food Industry case study
Recycle process for food industry
Issue
A well-known high street deli chain supplies its stores from a central distribution centre. Throughout their supply chain they use large quantities of HDPE storage bins; the bins can become damaged and unusable and need to be disposed of and replaced. They would use a waste collection service to collect the old boxes and then order new ones from a supplier. This is an inefficient and wasteful system and is also not the most cost-effective solution.
Exporting Material
The collection of the HDPE storage boxes was arranged with a licensed waste carrier and the scrap materials were shipped to our plastic recycling facility. At every step of the process of handling and transporting the plastic waste materials we deal with, we are fully compliant with all relevant regulations at all times. This process is carried out in the most ethically way possible to ensure the maximum recyclability of the polymers.
Consultation
After the company made contact with Pakire Polymers we conducted a thorough site audit so that we could best advise them on how to proceed. We suggested that we could purchase their used HDPE storage boxes from them to recycle at our facility, and that we could use the pellet produced to manufacture new storage boxes for them. Once this was agreed prices were negotiated and a purchase order was issued.
Output
We processed the HDPE storage boxes at our plastic recycling facility where we were able to achieve a high-yield of superior-quality recycled HDPE plastic pellet. We were then able to use the pellet to manufacture new HDPE storage boxes to supply back to the company. Pakire Polymers was able to turn a regular expense into regular profit for the client, as well as provide sustainable waste management solutions that promote the circular-economic vision that is at the core of what we do.
